Why do so many gaming chairs look supportive, yet become less comfortable after hours of sitting?
The difference often comes down to the details. A chair’s comfort is shaped by much more than appearance alone. The seat cushion, upholstery, armrests, ergonomic features and overall structure all affect how the chair feels during long hours of work, gaming and everyday use.
Boulies has always placed comfort at the heart of product design. The evolution of the Master Series reflects that ongoing focus, with each generation refining the details that influence support, adjustability and long-term sitting comfort.
2017: The First Master
The first-generation Boulies Master launched in 2017 with a clear idea behind it — a gaming chair should offer not only a striking appearance but also lasting comfort over long periods of use.
At the time, many gaming chairs focused heavily on bold, eye-catching styling. For people spending hours at a desk, however, appearance was only part of the experience. What mattered more was whether the chair could provide consistent support and remain comfortable through a full day of work or gaming.
With this in mind, we created the first Master. Comfort was built into the series from the start. The chair combined a clean design with ergonomic features, keeping the sporty feel of a gaming chair while making it more suitable for everyday use.
That first model set the direction for the Master Series that followed, with equal attention given to how the chair looks and how it actually feels to sit in.
2020: Improving the Materials You Feel
When it comes to comfort, your body often notices the difference before your eyes do.
Appearance shapes the first impression of a chair, but once you sit down, the materials become far more important. This is especially true in warmer weather, when bare arms or legs may come into direct contact with the chair. A softer, more breathable finish can make a noticeable difference during long periods of use.
In July 2019, customer feedback highlighted that the upholstery felt rough and lacked the resilience expected for long-term use. This prompted us to review the materials used on the Master.
In response, we introduced upgraded upholstery for the Master in 2020. The new material felt softer against the skin while offering better breathability and durability. We also refined the balance between softness and support to improve comfort during longer periods of use.
These were not changes you would necessarily notice at first glance, but they became clear as soon as you sat down.
2022: Building Support That Lasts
By 2022, we were looking further ahead and asking whether an ergonomic gaming chair could still feel stable and supportive after five years of use.
For people who spend long hours working or gaming, long-term comfort depends on more than the upholstery. The strength and stability of the chair’s structure matter just as much, especially when that support needs to hold up over years of daily use.
For this generation of the Master, our focus moved beyond the surface materials and into the internal structure. We upgraded the chair with a new steel frame to improve overall stability and durability, helping the chair maintain reliable support through long-term use.
The 2022 Master also introduced new 4D armrests with a wider range of adjustment. Users could position them to suit their height, desk setup and sitting posture, providing better support for the arms and shoulders.
These upgrades were designed to help the Master remain supportive through 8+ hours of daily use while staying stable and reliable for years to come.
2024: Redesigning the Seat Cushion
Have you ever wondered why so many gaming chair seats have raised side bolsters and an upward-angled front edge?
These features were originally designed to help keep the body in position. For people who spend long hours sitting, however, staying fixed in one posture does not always mean greater comfort. The body naturally shifts position throughout the day. A raised front edge can place pressure on the thighs, and pronounced side bolsters may restrict legroom and movement.
In 2024, we took a fresh look at the Master seat cushion, focusing on its shape, comfort and support.
The new cushion featured a flatter, more rounded front edge to help reduce pressure on the thighs and allow the legs to rest more naturally. We also reduced the raised sides of the seat, creating more legroom and giving users greater freedom to change positions or even sit cross-legged.
The cushion firmness was carefully refined as well, balancing a gentler feel when you first sit down with enough support to remain comfortable over longer periods of use.
This redesign focused on making the seat work more naturally with the body.
2026: The All-New Master Rex
Over the years, each update to the Master Series has helped us better understand what makes a chair comfortable. From upholstery and frame strength to seat design, those years of refinement have shaped the Master Rex 2026.
For 2026, the focus expanded beyond individual features to the chair as a whole. Its design, armrests, leg support and tilt mechanism have all been updated to make everyday use feel more natural and comfortable. Some of these changes are easy to see, while others are only noticeable once you spend time in the chair.
Sleek, Modern Design for Different Spaces
Traditional gaming chairs often rely on bold colours and exaggerated shapes, making them instantly recognisable as part of a gaming setup. The Master Rex 2026 takes a more refined approach, with cleaner lines and a streamlined shape that still retains a sporty feel.
Its more versatile design allows it to fit naturally into a gaming room, study or home office. As one chair often needs to support work, gaming and relaxation throughout the day, the Master Rex 2026 is designed to adapt naturally to different uses without feeling tied to a single setup.
6D Armrests That Move with You
Standard armrests often offer only a limited range of adjustment, even though your arms naturally shift position throughout the day. Your elbows may sit further forward when gaming, your forearms may move closer to the desk while working, and your arm position changes again when you recline. When the armrests cannot adapt to those changes, your body has to adjust around them instead.
That is why the Master Rex 2026 introduces 6D armrests with adjustable height, forward and backward positioning, pad angle and inward/outward rotation, along with full 360° armrest rotation. This wider range of movement allows the armrests to be positioned more precisely for different body types, sitting postures and activities, helping keep the arms and elbows in a more natural position whether you are typing, gaming or leaning back.
These armrests adjust to you, not the other way around.
Integrated Footrest for Better Leg Support
A footrest may not feel essential when you are sitting upright at a desk, but it becomes much more useful when you lean back, stretch out or take a short break.
The Boulies Master Rex 2026 features an integrated footrest that can be pulled out when needed. It provides stable support for the lower legs and feet, helping the whole body settle into a more relaxed position.
This makes it easier to shift comfortably between focused work and relaxation without changing your setup.
Enhanced Tilt Mechanism
Some improvements are not immediately visible, but they can make a noticeable difference in everyday use.
The Master Rex 2026 features an enhanced tilt mechanism for smoother movement through its 95°–165° recline range and 15° rocking motion. Moving from an upright position into a more relaxed posture feels more natural, with a better balance between stability and freedom of movement.
A tilt-tension adjustment knob beneath the seat also lets users manually adjust the reclining resistance to suit their own preferences and sitting habits. This added control allows for a more personalised setting, since the ideal level of resistance depends on more than body weight alone.

When we created the first Master, the goal was simple — to make a gaming chair that could remain comfortable through long hours of use. Over the years, that idea has grown into a broader approach to ergonomic design.
From the first Master to the new Master Rex 2026, each generation has refined the elements that shape the everyday sitting experience. The materials, structure and features have evolved, but our focus on comfort has remained the same.
